Description
Glassblowing Intensive:
Eccentric Glass Production 2 DAY WORKSHOP
Dates: June 24 & 25, 2026
Schedule: 10:00am – 5:00pm
Level: Intermediate+
Spots: 6
Instructor: Grace Whiteside
Fee: $975 + gst
In this two-day intensive, students will draw from Grace Whiteside’s experience as a product designer and experimental glassmaker, exploring the space where technique, sculpture, and design intersect. Grace will share insights into the development of their acclaimed Sticky Glass design line while guiding participants through fluid glass experimentation, honing technique and efficiency in the process.
Day 1 - Wednesday June 24: The workshop begins with an icebreaker and group discussion focused on project ideas and developing cohesive product lines. Grace will demonstrate how simple forms such as cups, bowls, and vases can evolve into bespoke works with personality, narrative, and marketability. Students will explore colour application techniques including overlays and blow-throughs, while discussing when to use frit, colour bar, cane, murrini, and other materials. Participants will then break into teams to begin developing their own product lines with guided support. Homework: Bring an organic or unconventional mold source for Day 2.
Day 2 - Thursday June 25: Students will dive into experimental mold blowing and sculptural form-building using unconventional materials such as bell peppers, tree bark, copper wire forms, and more. Grace will demonstrate techniques for translating unexpected textures and forms into glass before students continue developing their product lines through experimentation and guided instruction. The intensive concludes with a discussion on sustaining a creative practice beyond the classroom, including pricing work for sale, marketing and advertising strategies, and client outreach.
